Petaluma Argus Courier

"Graham is brilliant in the role. With a confident tilt of the head and eyebrow twitch, she conveys volumes about the character and her entanglements. She had the audience fully engaged and giggling along at every humorous bit, and breaking out in guffaws at the larger funny moments." Read more...

It's a one-woman show starring longtime local favorite Mary Gannon Graham as a British middle-aged, working-class housewife who dreams of freedom.

Shillington and Graham previously collaborated on a sold-out run of “Shirley Valentine” in 2008 at the Sonoma County Repertory Theater in Sebastopol.

So what's so important about a one-woman show that highlights a vacation Shirley Valentine takes to Greece? Well, in this case the protagonist is a typical British middle-aged, working class housewife who takes the vacation of a lifetime WITHOUT bringing her life along.

What happens to her is at the heart of this theatrical presentation. Scheduled to run May 27-June 12 at the Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma (North San Francisco Bay Area) this show tells Shirley as much about herself as it tells the audience.

Mary Gannon Graham’s reprise of the one-woman show, “Shirley Valentine,” about a middle-aged English housewife searching for freedom, was scheduled to open in Sebastopol this spring.

If you haven’t seen Graham in this show, you should.

To quote my own review of her 2008 performance of “Shirley Valentine” at the Rep:

“If there’s only one actor, it had better be the right one. When the one chosen is Mary Gannon Graham, a dynamic performer since her early shows at Santa Rosa Junior College in the ’80s, all is well.”
