Wretch Like Me
Written and performed by David Templeton
Directed by David Yen

NEA-honored theater critic David Templeton tells his outrageous true story about being a teenage fundamentalist—and how he was saved from being saved. Infused with smoldering cultural and social references from 1960s & ‘70s, Templeton’s irresistibly engaging solo show has been called “relentlessly funny,” “charming,” “hysterical,” and “unforgettable.”

“Last night, I witnessed the beginning of something destined to be big. Wretch Like Me is really gripping and lovely, sophisticated and down to earth, funny, horrifying, squirm-inducing and exciting! David Templeton fully conveys the perspective of a 5 year old boy and invokes the presence of his tragically miscast and beautifully sensitive mom, revealing the nuance of characters we could easily dismiss. Wretch Like Me took me a lot closer to understanding the social mechanics behind the evangelical movement most of us find so frightening and baffling. The conclusion is heartbreakingly beautiful. I hope great masses of our fragile society get to hear these tales too. A wonderful piece of theatre.”
