Comics Stripped
is a hybrid between NPR’s This American Life and Woody Allen’s Broadway
Danny Rose - everybody telling great stories about a similar topic, sort of This American Comedians Life. Host Dave Pokorny picks a theme for each
Stripped, and guest artists riff on that theme Though promising a load of
belly laughs, don’t expect your typical evening of stand-up. Comics Stripped is
unique: you won’t get this intimate with these same performers at any other
venue. Picture a guest on a TV talk show telling a great story, or a party with
one of the guests taking center stage.
Dave
says: The reason I came up with the title Comics Stripped is that the
comics are up there "stripped" talking to these 100 people like they
were friends. I like to capture the feeling of interesting stories that
just "happen" to have punch lines to them.

WILL
DURST transcends party ties, having performed at events honoring former
Presidents Bill Clinton and George HW Bush as well as acclaimed appearances at
both a Mayors Convention and Governors Conference. Sweeping both sides of the
aisle with a quiver full of arrows dipped in common sense.
Reigning
as C-SPAN’s favorite comic (8 appearances,) Durst is a 5-time Emmy
nominee and recipient of 7 consecutive nominations for the American Comedy
Awards Stand Up of the Year. He is the first comic invited to perform at
Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and the first American to be nominated
for the prestigious Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the show
“Myth America.” He has racked up more than 400 television appearances in 14
different countries while slinging jokes around the globe in his one man
crusade to make people laugh out loud on purpose against their will. Hobbies
include the never-ending quest for the perfect cheeseburger, while his heroes
remain the same as when he was twelve—Thomas Jefferson and Bugs Bunny.
Durst is a regular
commentator for audible.com, Air America, CNN and NPR, writes a nationally
syndicated op- ed column, daily website jokes—yet still finds time to perform
hundreds of comedy shows every year.
Will
Durst’s performances are made possible by the First Amendment.

DAVE
POKORNY Not long
ago, in a galaxy far far away, Dave Pokorny was one of the most sought
after opening acts in comedy. As the house emcee at the number one comedy
club in San Francisco and a regular on the Las Vegas Strip he opened for such
major stars as Ellen DeGeneres, Jim Carrey and Bob Saget. After a few
television spots on ABC and MTV he was on his way.
However, a decade on
the road as a stand-up comic took its toll and when his first (of two)
daughters was born he no longer wanted to be away from home. Pokorny left the funny biz for the glamorous world of parenthood. With that first child
about to enter high school, and realizing that his desire to be on stage was
still there, he joined Toastmasters International and after winning three
international humorous speech competitions he decided to begin work on his long
overdue solo performance piece. An autobiographical monologue that tells of his
years as a stand-up entitled, “Based On A True Story.” |
