Our beloved bass, Stan
Case, died on Tuesday, March 25th.
The opera world mourns
the passing of this gentle giant, who made his
operatic home here at Cinnabar many years ago. Our
audiences will remember him in his many roles
here, notably in title roles of Falstaff and Don
Pasquale, but also as Colline in La
Bohème, the father in The Secret
Marriage, as a member of Forever Plaid,
and so many other roles we cannot enumerate them
here.
Who could ever forget him twirling tiny Joe Meyers
all about the stage and doing balletic lifts, causing
Joe to fairly fly as they sang their Chartreuse
duet in The Star? Who can stop laughing
even now, remembering him rip a full chicken apart
during his aria as Don Basilio in The Barber
of Seville?
Stan was Cinnabar's Big
Angel, a singer of great beauty, an actor of
profundity as well as tremendous humor, a colleague
whose generosity could not be equaled, and the
strongest kid magnet of them all. To
say he will be missed is to understate the obvious
- he leaves a gaping hole on our stage and in our
hearts. Thank you, Stan, for making our lives
so rich and for spreading your kindness and grace
far and wide (and deep, deep, deep).
Stan Case, a great talent, a great spirit, and
our beloved friend. |
