La Curandera, inspired by Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne, our sorcerer is a curandera, a Mexican practitioner of folk healing and magic. Spanish proverbs and idiomatic expressions abound, as well as actual incantations and rituals from Mexican folklore. Listen for homages to Mexico, mariachi and Mozart in Rodriguez' characteristic richly lyrical (Musical America) writing, full of the composer's 'all-encompassing sense of humor' (Los Angeles Times).
