'Enchanted April' delightful - Classic comedy about four British women renting an Italian castle rides bouyantly on star talent, By Dan Taylor, The Press Democrat
The play begins in England just after World War I, when every woman traveling alone is presumed to be a war widow. Some women aren't, but they might as well be. It never occurs to anyone that married women might enjoy a break from their husbands. The notion particularly doesn't occur to the husbands in question....
A chance encounter with prim Rose Arnott (Danielle Cain) leads to a whimsical decision to escape a dreary, rainy spring in London by answering a newspaper ad that offers an Italian castle for rent....
To raise the rest of the money for their Italian getaway, this dubious duo recruits Lady Bramble (Laura Lowry), a scandalous woman of the world, and the haughty battle-ax Mrs. Graves (Carol Mayo-Jenkins.) Soon, the odd foursome engages in witty, combative banter that Neil Simon would envy.
Experience an ‘Enchanted April’ - Cinnabar Theater presents a light, but heartfelt comedy on life, love and rediscovering self, by Argus Courier, May 30, 2007, by Yovanna Bieberich
“'To those who appreciate wisteria and sunshine …' Or even for those who don’t, it’s likely that audience members will relate to characters Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott in Cinnabar Theater’s production of Enchanted April.”
"While Enchanted April has loads of humor that audience members will enjoy, the deep exploration of matters of the heart are not lost in the comedy. During the Italian holiday, each character experiences a major shift in thought and feeling, eventually tearing down the walls that kept each of them from the happiness they desperately desired."
"For theater-lovers looking for relief after a long work week, Enchanted April may be the next best thing besides taking an Italian holiday." Full review here...
'Enchanted April' is sexy and satisfying - The Bohemian, June 3, 2007, by David Templeton
While threatening to turn into some sort of elaborate bedroom farce, Enchanted April maintains its high spirits without resorting to the usual low-browed hijinks (with the happy exception of a towel-clad Delzell staging a hilarious nearly nude meltdown after an unfortunate bathtub malfunction). In the end, Enchanted April more than lives up to its name; this tremendously satisfying production, with its beautifully written script, magnificent cast and first-rate direction, is nothing short of enchanting.
