Why
Volunteer of the Month?
Nancy Wilson has donated countless hours of her time
to Cinnabar, working in the lobby, baking, cooking.
Most recently she has been indispensable in the office,
helping our Box Office Manager, Mary Lou Schomer,
label and file the mountains of tickets Cinnabar
has processed in the last couple months. Not only
is she always willing to lend a hand, she makes everyone
around her laugh until their stomachs hurt. Thank
you, Nancy!
Nancy and Cinnabar
As a member of the Cinnabar School Educational
Foundation, I approached Marvin and Jan to ask
for their cooperation in setting up tours of
the "old school" (now the theater,
of course), for people attending our big 125
year school reunion (I forget when - late 70s?)
Their response was over the top: tours, displays,
artifacts. It MADE the day.
I don't recall the first show I saw at Cinnabar,
but whatever it was, I was hooked. It may have
been The Secret Marriage (the first time), or La
Boheme . . . but the memorable moments are numerous:
Don Giovanni; Gianni Schicci; Madama Butterfly;
Rene doing the drunken servant thing; Marvin doing
needlepoint; Elly playing with rubber lizards.
(Are these things available on videotape??)
About Nancy sans Cinnabar
Abducted in infancy from a baronial estate in the
highlands of Scotland, Nancy was lovingly raised
by American gypsies during a kinder, gentler
era. Her early years were greatly influenced
by the Bobbsey Twins.
A public school education did no permanent damage
and her later-life career path has taken her to
such diverse venues as the Guatemalan jungle for
a trek to the top of Tikal’s Temple Four,
a campsite in the Masai Mara where lions’ purring
was mistaken for her snoring, and several years
masquerading as an angel of mercy in the health
care field. A dedicated proponent of sugarless
cereals, Nancy managed to raise two well-adjusted
children. She adores her husband Tom, and what
few empty hours she has are filled with nit-picky
editing, reading fluffy literature, cutthroat cribbage
and backgammon, and idly buffing her 2” crimson
nails.
Nah…seriously, folks!
Nancy was born in San Francisco and grew up in
the Bay Area, mostly Santa Rosa. She attended Santa
Rosa High and SR JC, followed by one brief, fun-filled,
party-packed semester at UC Berkeley. Then it was
back to SRJC Nursing School. Forty years later,
she graduated with honors from SSU with a degree
in English. She enjoyed a long career as an RN
(ER nurse) and continue to work as a part-time
OS.
Nancy also enjoys travel with Tom and her 'BroadsAbroad'
group. Other delights include cooking, gardening
and all things lingual. She admits to being a fierce
competitor at nearly ANY game and enjoys play dates
with her beautiful granddaughter, Sophie. |
