Why Volunteer of the Month?

Sindre blew into Cinnabar supposedly from Norway, but we in the office are convinced he came from above. Unfailingly pleasant and low key, Sindre has willingly, even happily, assayed some of the most miserable jobs that we could throw at him. He copied musical scores, stuffed envelopes, hand-wrote hundreds of addresses…you name it. And all of this from a young man with a fine mind, gentle wit and clearly great things in his future. If anyone can think of a way to keep him from going back to Norway, we’re taking suggestions.

About Sindre

Sindre was born and raised in Oslo, Norway. He is 21 years old, an “only child” and a Scorpio. (Editorial aside: Actually, he’s on the cusp and far more like a Libra than a Scorpio.) He attended Foss High School, a school similar to Santa Rosa High’s Art Quest program, where he specialized in music (electric guitar).

In Oslo, Sindre has been working with children after school, providing childcare and music lessons. He is also a substitute teacher in the public schools. His interests include music, beer, soccer and cross-country skiing.

When asked about goals, our VOM said his dream is to become a music or theater producer. But his most immediate goal is to get a Bachelor’s degree in Arts Management from the Norwegian School of Management.

How did you end up at Cinnabar?

“I have an aunt in Petaluma and this is the fourth time I’ve been here. This time I wanted to have something to do while I was here and I thought it might be good to have a job that was relevant to my education. So I talked with my aunt and we thought about Cinnabar Theater. My aunt called Elly and asked if they would be interested in having me here and she said yes. She told my aunt I should write a letter so I could introduce myself. So I did.”

What do you think of the U.S.? Any differences between Oslo and Petaluma?

I think it’s about the same. I’ve heard people from different countries say Norwegians or Scandinavians are… how do you say it? Straightlaced? But I think that people here are generally more polite than in Norway.

I want the United States to be more involved in soccer. (But don’t be better than the Europeans.)

I have enjoyed my stay so far.
