Cindy McCollom, Former
Cinnabar Webmaster
Here's a recent interview with Cindy McCollom,
our Volunteer of the Month for June.
How did you get interested
in Cinnabar?
“I wanted
to volunteer my services to a local nonprofit
organization, and I've always been interested
in the arts. So last year, I made an inquiry
at The Volunteer Center of Sonoma County and
discovered that Cinnabar was looking for a web
developer. It seemed like the perfect opportunity,
and it's turned out to be one of the most rewarding
experiences of my life.”
How did you train to be
a webmaster?
“In the
last few years, I've become more involved with
the Internet and very excited about its potential
to provide information. So, I enrolled
in a few courses at Santa Rosa Junior College
and learned about web development and graphic
design. The rest of my training has been
hands-on and self-taught.”
What do you do in “real
life”?
“I have
an MBA in Business Information and Computing
Systems and have worked as a programmer/analyst
for a variety of firms in the Bay Area.”
What’s your connection
to the arts, or theater, or opera, or whatever
it is that made you get in touch with us?
“I've
always enjoyed the arts, especially
light opera and live theater. As
a child, I lived in Marin County and
attended many musical productions at
the Curran Theater in San Francisco. As
a young adult, I subscribed to A.C.T.,
Golden Gate Theater and the San Francisco
Ballet. Since moving to Sonoma
County, I've been attending the San
Francisco Opera for the last few years.”
