Gilbert Eldredge
Volunteer of the Month - September
Why Volunteer of the Month?
Gilbert Eldredge is one of those quiet guys who miraculously appear whenever a brainy fellow is needed to tame something electronic or electrical. He has saved Cinnabar on so many occasions and in so many ways that it would impossible to recount them in this little bio. Whether a computer issue or a wiring problem, he is there. Suffice to say, there’s almost nothing he can’t or won’t do to help us. Thank you, Gilbert!
About Gilbert
Although born in Oakland, California, Gilbert grew up in Richmond and El Cerrito. He received his BA in music from Hayward State University, which no longer exists as such. “The name has been ‘improved’ to ‘East Bay’ something or other! I went to Sonoma State for the first few years then transferred to Hayward where I met my wife, Lisa.
“I’m married to a beautiful woman, who just happens to be a costume designer at Cinnabar Theater! And I have two wonderful boys who appeared as mice in the original production of The Tailor of Gloucester. Jordan is finishing his Bachelors of Music at SF State this semester and Nathaniel is working on a Phd. in Mathematics at UC San Diego.
“I think of myself as an electronic hardware engineer though it turns out I mostly do software. I’m self employed.
“I am interested in Geodetic Astronomy. That is the science of measuring the size and shape of the earth by observing stars. It’s a lot of interesting reading. I also like to actually look through a telescope. Occultations are my favorite astronomical events. That’s when a celestial object passes between us and another celestial object causing the further to be obscured or occulted, like for instance, the moon passing between us and a star. Those are the most common occultations.
Gilbert and Cinnabar
My earliest recollection of being at Cinnabar is when our kids were in The Tailor of Gloucester in the 1980s. Jordan was in a lot of youth productions growing up. I’d say I’ve been to 60 or so productions, many of them more than once. That’s what happens when you have family in theater! I’ve worked backstage and helped out with a few electrical enigmas. I’ve also been in the choruses of The Cunning Little Vixen, Pagliacci and The Marriage of Figaro.
“I appreciate that Cinnabar gives my family the opportunity to get involved in all aspects of theater, whether as audience members or as part of the production.
“I’m honored to be recognized as a Cinnabar Volunteer of the Month.” |
